Testimonials
Here are a few reviews from our many guests who have stayed with us over the years
(Source : Tripadvisor).
We highly recommend Vallum lodge as a central point for walking the best sections of Hadrians wall. You are in walking distance to Steel rigg & Sycamore Gap, Twice Brewed and the Sill discovery centre. We enjoyed walking from the Steel rigg to Cawfields quarry on one day and then walking west to Housesteads Roman fort on another day. It is also within driving distance of Hexham town, Vindolando and the Roman army museum.
What a great spot for walkers, and a super friendly host, nice big rooms with some really thoughtful touches by someone who understands what it's like to have tired feet! We were too tired to take advantage of the common room and fridge of beer, but had a super breakfast buffet spread. Top marks.
I stayed here for 2 nights while walking Hadrian's Wall with my dog. It was easily the best b and b I had along the way even though the others were also good and it is very dog friendly. Staying here was one of the highlights of the walk for me, with Vindolanda which is a fabulous site and museum, dramatic scenery, a great part of the wall, the Twice Brewed Inn and a perfect bed and breakfast.
Samantha (and Branston the spaniel) are so welcoming, the rooms are really comfortable, delicious home cooked supper was just what a weary hiker needed, the room was complete with bath and foot spa with lavender oil... and the lodge is dog-friendly... I was sorry to only be staying here for one night.
